Statement of Solidarity Against Racism & Discrimination

In light of recent events around the country, we put forth the following message:

The Consumer Council System of Maine is deeply saddened and outraged about the recent killing of George Floyd and other incidents of racial & systemic violence happening around the country.

Systemic violence against communities of color MUST stop and we stand in solidarity with those fighting for racial justice and equality.

The work of the CCSM is about making sure all those receiving mental health services in Maine are heard at the state level and we see ourselves as part of the larger civil and human rights movements.

We hold true to our values which include inclusion, integrity, and preservation of rights for ALL, regardless of race, color, age, gender, religion, marital status, political affiliation or identity.

It is time to look inward and address our own biases and privilege that we are often not aware of.

We will continue to work toward creating change for ALL while assessing the work we do and use our voices to oppose any and all forms of racial injustice and systemic inequalities.

If you don’t stand up for others when their rights are being trampled, who will stand up for you when it’s your rights they trampled. ~Unknown
