ISSUE:
As Maine returns to being co-occurring capable, which is required for Certified Community Behavioral Health Clinics (CCBHCs), we would like to highlight the need for both Intentional Peer Support Specialists (IPSS) and Recovery Coaches to have opportunities for training to be co-occurring capable. All CCBHC team members are also required to be co-occurring capable, so we believe IPSS and Recovery Coaches should be as well.
RECOMMENDATIONS:
- More opportunities for co-occurring focused Continuing Education for both IPSS and Recovery Coaches.
- Ensure that IPSS training is developed by peers and focused on a peer approach rather than a clinical approach.
- Seek to build collaborative relationships between peer and recovery communities and service providers to better integrate supports for affected people.
